Kobe has one of the oldest Indian communities in Japan. Jain diamond and pearl traders, largely Gujarati, built their businesses there, and the city has a Jain temple that serves the community. Sindhi trading families settled in Kobe and Yokohama too, dealing in textiles and electronics.

Tokyo's Indian community is newer and mostly professional, working in technology, banking and engineering, with many families living around Nishikasai in Edogawa. Because the community in Japan is small, parents usually want us to search in India and other countries as well, and they ask early whether a match would be willing to live in Japan.
